The Republia Times puts you into the shoes of the editor-in-chief of the national newspaper of Republia, a fictional country recovering from a war with its neighbor, Antegria. Gameplay either ends on day 11 because the "Great and Honorable Leader" decided to invest in "newer technology", or Republia gets overthrown into Democria, or vice versa. The game's challenge is derived from trying to deduce what effect the different news stories will have (both on readership and Republian loyalty) and making the most of the news stories presented for any given day. It’s a brilliant little game about tabloid, censorship and propaganda in a war-torn nation. “The Republia Times” generated a significant amount of buzz when it was released a few weeks ago, even though it was developed by Lucas Pope simply as a warmup for a 48-hour game competition. It was his first Flash game, and he called Flash debugging "a nightmare". Several primitive storylines play out in the headlines of stories that the Editor in Chief chooses from, including the marriage and divorce of two famous actors, the increasingly clear unpreparedness of the Republian military, the defection of celebrities to Antegria, and increasingly tumultuous weather as the rebellion gains steam. In the game, the player takes the role of the editor of a newspaper torn between personal opposition to the government and threats to the lives of the editor's wife and children if the editor does not generate loyalty among the population.
